Ingredients

1 lb fresh asparagus, trimmed

2 tablespoons olive oil

Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

3 cloves garlic, finely minced

Juice of 1 fresh lemon

Zest of 1 lemon

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Optional: fresh grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Asparagus: Start by rinsing the fresh asparagus under cold water to remove any dirt. Carefully trim the tough ends of the asparagus, typically about 1-2 inches from the bottom. After trimming, pat the asparagus dry with a paper towel to ensure they grill nicely.

Season the Asparagus: In a large mixing bowl, drizzle the trimmed asparagus with olive oil. Generously season with salt and freshly ground pepper. Use your hands or tongs to toss the asparagus until they are evenly coated with the oil and seasonings.

Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high heat, around 400-450°F (204-232°C). If you're using a grill pan on the stovetop, place it over medium-high heat and allow it to preheat as well.

Grill the Asparagus: Lay the seasoned asparagus directly onto the grill grates in a single layer. Grill for approximately 5-7 minutes, turning them occasionally with tongs. The asparagus should become tender and develop beautiful grill marks, indicating they're done.

Make the Garlic Lemon Butter: In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the finely minced garlic. Sauté the garlic for about 1-2 minutes, stirring often, until it becomes fragrant but is not browned. Remove the saucepan from the heat and mix in the freshly squeezed lemon juice and lemon zest, stirring well to combine the flavors.

Combine and Serve: Once the asparagus is grilled to your liking, carefully transfer it to a serving platter. Drizzle the rich garlic lemon butter generously over the grilled asparagus, then gently toss to coat each spear in the flavorful butter.

Garnish: For a fresh finish, sprinkle the grilled asparagus with finely chopped parsley. If desired, add a sprinkle of freshly grated Parmesan cheese for an extra layer of flavor. Serve warm as a delightful side dish that complements any meal!
