Ingredients

14 oz (400g) firm tofu, pressed and cut into bite-sized cubes

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 2 limes)

2 tablespoons honey (or agave syrup for a vegan option)

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 tablespoon olive oil (or any neutral oil)

2 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust according to spice preference)

Chopped fresh cilantro and lime wedges for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu: Begin by pressing the tofu to eliminate excess moisture, which helps it absorb flavors and achieve a firmer texture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel, place a heavy object on top (like a cast-iron skillet), and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. After pressing, cut the tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes for even cooking.

Marinate the Tofu: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, fresh lime juice, honey (or agave syrup), minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes until well combined. Gently add the tofu cubes into the marinade, ensuring each piece is coated. Cover and refrigerate the marinated tofu for at least 30 minutes to enhance the flavors.

Coat the Tofu: Once marinated, sprinkle the cornstarch evenly over the tofu cubes. Carefully toss the tofu to coat each piece without breaking them. The cornstarch will help achieve a crispy texture when cooked.

Cook the Tofu: In a large non-stick skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the tofu cubes in a single even layer. Allow the tofu to cook undisturbed for 5-7 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown, crispy exterior. If necessary, cook in batches to prevent overcrowding.

Add the Glaze: Lower the heat to medium. Carefully pour the reserved marinade into the skillet with the crispy tofu. Let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to bubble and thicken while gently tossing the tofu to ensure it is well-coated.

Finish with Sesame Oil: Right before removing the dish from the heat, drizzle sesame oil over the tofu to impart an additional depth of flavor.

Serve: Once the tofu is beautifully glazed, transfer it to a serving dish. Garnish with a sprinkle of chopped fresh cilantro and serve warm alongside lime wedges for squeezing over the top.

Prep Time: 30 mins | Total Time: 50 mins | Servings: 4 servings

Presentation Tips: Serve the tofu on a vibrant platter for visual appeal, and consider accompanying it with a side of steamed jasmine rice or a fresh green salad for a balanced meal.
