Ingredients

1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 small onion, finely diced

1 packet (1 oz) taco seasoning

1/4 cup water

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup salsa (plus additional for serving)

1/4 cup sour cream (for serving)

Fresh cilantro leaves (optional, for garnish)

Jalapeño slices (optional, for garnish)

Cooking spray or olive oil (for greasing the baking sheet)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Take a baking sheet and lightly grease it with cooking spray or a drizzle of olive oil to ensure the rolls don’t stick.

Cook the Beef: In a medium skillet set over medium heat, add the finely diced onion. Sauté the onion for about 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent. Next, add in the ground beef (or turkey), cooking it for 5-7 minutes until it is fully browned. Make sure to drain any excess fat to keep your filling moist yet not greasy.

Season the Meat: Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the cooked meat and pour in the water, stirring until everything is evenly mixed. Allow this mixture to simmer for approximately 3-4 minutes so all of the flavors can meld together. Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese until it is fully melted and incorporated.

Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, unroll the crescent roll dough. Pinch the seams together to form a solid sheet of dough. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the dough into squares measuring roughly 3-4 inches.

Fill the Rolls: Take a generous tablespoon of the taco meat mixture and place it in the center of each square of dough. Fold the corners of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges together tightly to seal them into little pouches.

Bake: Place the filled rolls seam side down on the greased baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed up and golden brown.

Serve: Once baked, remove the rolls from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes. Serve the rolls warm, accompanied by a side of salsa and sour cream for dipping. For an extra touch, garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and jalapeño slices, if desired.
